Possible new Acquisition.... Decoding help please!
Hey guys just ran across an old 4x4. Rust free and amazing barn find.... Don't have any codes but v.i.n. Yet, but I could use help decoding. This seems to be a rare truck to have cruise, a/c, etc. Any opinions much appreciated: Its a 8600# gvwr made in 12/78. Vin # x36skdh0754 Thanks

My source for this information is the 1973-1979 Ford light truck parts catalog. I'm sure numberdummy or mikeo0o0o0 would validate this as correct & add more to this thread later.
You're welcome !

Yup, you're right on KBJ.
Sometimes the "X" in the VIN throws people who are used to seeing the VIN start with "F". Regular cab and Crew cab start with "F", Supercabs start with "X".

I'm thankful for the parts catalog. If I went from memory (which would have been wrong) I would have said that "X" was a crew cab .

Reason: I added letters to one word & deleted another word.
It sure is one neat looking old truck. Only the second one I have ever seen in this bodystyle with cruise. 80,000 original miles with a great Kansas body....

Did you check to see if has a tilt steering wheel? Many 1978/79 F100/350's & Bronco's with Speed Control also came with tilt.
Tilt wheel operated by turn signal handle. Press it forward, if tilt: BOING!
But, do not believe the miles shown on the odometer as it reads to 99,999.9 then returns to ZERO!
Very true Bill.... However for near a $1K and if the family really bought it new I tend to believe them on the condition. It certainly looks to be in amazing original condition. Not sure on the tilt yet.....
