I have everything on top of the engine taken off. I can't figure out how to get the clutch/fly wheel off and the fan. I may have further questions with the internals as well but any help is appreciated.
No, its normal thread. If you have an air chisel like Talyn said it works. I used a 1 7/8 wrench and hit it with a hammer and shocked it loose. Parts stores rent the correct tools to do it iirc.
I have the engine out but when it came out the fly wheel and looks like the clutch is still attached to the back side of the engine. I can see 8 bolts but don't look like they are actually bolted to tge block itself.
Remove the bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel. When you get the pressure plate off you'll see a ring of bolts in the center of the flywheel. Those bolts hold the flywheel to the crank shaft. Remove the flywheel bolts and be careful, the flywheel is very heavy.
6 or 8 bolts hold of the pressure plate
Take that off AND the clutch disc.
Then you see 6 bolts that hold the flywheel onto the crankshaft.
That SOB is very heavy and those starter teeth will take off your toes.
You don't need to rent the tool. If you don't have an air chisel like I didn't on the side of the road, just use a long chisel. Lay it in there at a angle and hit it hard to jar it loose. HPOP, fan 1st? doesn't matter.
I never had any luck with that stupid fan tool.even the one we had at the dealer sucked! Chisel is the ONLY way to go.it is effortless and fast and works EVERY time!
pull the fan first,if for no other reason but to have it put of the way to get the hpop gear bolt cover off easier or to get the bolt out. Then no knockle cuts from that sometimes sharp plastic.purely a personal choice though.
