GPR LED Mod

This past week I installed the GPR LED mod in my truck early 99. When tested it worked. But after several days I noticed that when the wait to start lamp shuts off. It's several minutes before the LED light shuts off.

1. What is the purpose for this mod?

2. Is it to see whether or not the GPR is working?

3. Is it to allow the GPR to completely heat the glow plugs prior to start?

When the WTS lamp goes out, that's the computer calculating the ambient temp and the GPR "On" time, then telling you "that oughta do it" - meaning it should be warm enough to start. This doesn't mean the glowplugs are shut off, they stay on for about 90-120 seconds until things are toasty. The GPR LED is confirmation that the relay is on and how long it stays on. You describe a system working perfectly.

I'd add that another purpose (my primary reason) is that with the GPR LED I know when the amperage load is taken off the batteries from the GP's (noted when LED goes off) and it allows maximum amperage to be used by the starter. I believe this makes starting easier in very cold conditions and coincidentally, minimizes the amperage load on the battery. I want either the GP's on or the starter turning at any one time, but not both at the same time.
