I went out and jumped in the ex today, have not driven it in a few days and I did not think it was going to start. It was like the batteries were dead. I have new batteries and a new alternater. What else could it be ? Starter ? Glow plugs ? Thanks.
Even though you have new batteries and New alternator you need to remove each connection on your batteries and clean them very good. Then check that your ground lead on your engine block on each side is tight and clean. If you have any type of corrosion or pitting or dirty connections then you will have increased resistance in those connections and be dropping voltage because of that. REMOVE AND CLEAN EVERY CONNECTION! Do not skip any of them.
Being "like the batteries were dead" I would say starter. Is it the OG starter,I noticed mine turning slow even after new batteries, replaced the starter and she spins like she should..
I think something maybe left plugged in. My son is really bad about leaving inverter plugged in and on.....With me driving the truck only on weekends, it makes for dead battery.
Thanks for the replies guys. Nothing is plugged in, all connections are tight and free of corrosion. I have not checked the the engine block. It has been starting slow for a little while now. But now it seems like its draining the batteries. Any way of checking the starter and where could I find a good replacement.
Any of the parts stores will test it,but a bad starter will sometimes pass at their standards.I had a contact at Oreillys close to home,I got their premium starter at a price I couldn't refuse(I know the lifetime warrenty stuff isn't that good at times)plus I didn't have to give my stocker for a core.My starter probably would've tested good, but it spins over much faster.I also wanted to change it out on my terms,in my shop and not in a parking lot where it failed to start. I think a starter is something that WILL fail, and not MAY fail..I agree I hate to recommend going and buying parts without me being more in the know with you,but this was MY fix..jmho..Phil
EDIT: You could also check and see if you have a reputable starter/alternator rebuild shop in your area..
I had my starter tested last year at Advance Auto. It failed 3 of 5 start cycles. I replaced it with the 175$ starter from Advance and it cranked over fast after that. My batteries at the time were about one year old.

Being where you are, I'd also say try plugging it in over night and see if that helps. My glow plugs are bad and it has issues starting when it's cold and it's been sitting over night. My batteries are brand new and so is my starter... :-)
Mine does not have a plug in. Not a bad idea to get one though, I live at the coast so it usually does not get below 35 around here. But that's cold enough for faulty glow plugs I guess

You do have a plug in, ya just never saw it before!! Look around behind the bumper near the tow hook on drivers-side for an 'extension cord' end. The block heater is mounted in the oil cooler just above the oil filter and the cord runs along frame to behind the bumper.
There should be no issue starting these trucks down to below 0* if everything is up to par - but plugging in for a couple hours before ya start up when it gets colder out will provide smoother starts and hot air from the heater sooner.
If batts are fresh (check water level too!!), terminals are clean and there is no other draw on the system while parked - it could be a weak starter. The last couple starters I replaced gradually s l o w e d down before their demise. I really didn't notice until I changed them though. Try waiting about 2min after turning the key on before starting next time - this will allow GP's to go off and reduce the amp draw on batts while starting. Sometimes you can see the voltage gauge jump when GP's turn off...
I haven't started my dually for a month. I'm gonna go out right now and see if it'll start!!!! Batts are good, terminals are clean and I have a (real) Denso hi-torque starter.
