I just moved my '64 f250 to 8100ft elevation in colorado, and the old 223 just doesn't cut it up here (especially seeing as the traffic is four times what i've been used to)
- i've been thinking about swapping to an FE. 390 or 352 but i'd like to keep my T98 4 speed
has anyone ever done this swap before? and if so, what do i need to do to keep my old tranny?
T98 will work with an Fe, I believe you need the mount towers of a early 70s Ford with a Fe motor, or you can get an aftermarket tubular crossmember with mounts. If your truck is 4wd you need a front sump oil pan.
Rustbucket, Welcome to the forum. I have a suggestion, since you are making big changes & with the price of gas where it is, I would look at a much newer combo engine/OD tranny.
As much as I love the FE I don't I would use one other than a replacement. I am pretty sure that I would go EFI for better mpgs. The new Ecoboost would be badass in a slick.
Sure would be nice but your looking at 10k to make it work Plus the cost of the engine, easiest most cost effective, mpg friendly swap would be a 5.0 ho, unlimited upgrades and power options Plus stay around 20mpg. I got 24mpg in my 4k lb Lincoln mk7 and I had about 400hp with a kenne bell supercharger and all the goodies... If I kept my foot out of it.
