well I haven't put a whole lot of thought into it yet since I haven't planned on doing it. I don't have the cash yet anyways. I think when I do fix it I might just put new gears in rather than swap the whole axle.

I think at about 55mph cruising speed I sit at maybe 21-2200 Rpms. it isn't really high unless I am going up hill. I don't usually try to pass 55 cause then I have to push more to keep it going. at 55 I can just lightly press the pedal and it usually stays there.

I agree this is the easiest and cheapest way to go, just swap in a different 3rd member on GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3.54's are very common and easy to find in the wrecking yard

Once again though i'm pretty sure if i went with 3.54's i would have to get a set of gears for the front end. I was also going to look at how much a brand new set would run me for. I know junkyard stuff is cheaper but i don't know the first thing about doing this so if i end up getting the wrong gears, i could go backwards instead of forwards. There are still things i want to research and learn before i go forward and buy everything.

When you are ready let me know, it is very easy to verify the front ratio, then its just finding a 3rd member with the right ratio to match. Swapping the rear 3rd member is a very easy swap [couple hours]

I assume it is easier than pulling/installing the transmission and t-case? That was a PITA but easier than i originally thought. I won't be ready for a while though.

Then i should have no issues putting it in and what not. My next challenge is just figuring out the ratios. The way we did it before was me an Opossum rotated the tires a bunch and counted the driveline/tire rotations. I know you can count the teeth or look for a stamped number but i have never done it so i would need to know what to look for. Which teeth to count or where to look for the stamp. IIRC it isn't in a 3.55 style number. It was something else but i can't remember off the top of my head.

EDIT: I think it is teeth count that is stamped on it.

dana 44 with a 3.54 will have a 46-13 or 39-11 stamped on the side of the ring gear, this can be checked by pulling the diff cover and rotate the ring gear until you can read the number. I bet the local pick and pull would be very cheap, I am guessing $50 for a third member.

You never know i guess. I would need to see what the local yard would take, they don't normally have the best deals in the world but mostly better than new parts.

I like your truck but i am not a big dually person. I never really felt comfortable driving them even after driving a lot of them. It does look good with the cover on it though. Nice job.
