I just completly redid my passenger side running board and found the long metal reinforcement part brand new for 98.00. fordpartsgaint.com
Very tough time finding it.
Do search for rust repair inner rocker panels. There are several out there. You will need someone to weld them in, after cutting out the rusty metal. Then prep, prime, paint and undercoat before remounting the board.
I have to drop my boards and inspect, since the PO replaced the boards, but there is some rust on the drivers side behind the front tire on the inner rocker area, so I hope that the running board mounting area is ok, and I only have to repair the forward part. I do know I need to actuall install all the bolts that are supposed to be on the boards. Right now there are not many holding the boards on....
My daughter stepped on a back seat running board and it gave way. I've saturated the entire thing (inner and outer rocker panel) with fluid film. Only the rearmost mounts are in jeopardy as of now.
I don't know that there is any reason to replace the outer rocker panel because you can't see it; it is covered up by the running board. Has anyone figured out a way to scab in a piece of metal for the running board mount?
I got the same issue. Rockers under mine are pretty bad. The plates in the running boards are toast. I took the running boards off a few months ago before I stepped through them. I haven't figured out what I am going to do about it yet... I would like to get something back on it at some point. The wife, the lower part of her anatomy is built a little closer to the ground, it's fun watching her trying to figure out how to get in.
