How are the power steering pump and hydroboost tied together? The reason I am asking is that my PS pump is making noise and my brakes don't feel as firm as they usually do. I am thinking of changing out the pump and flushing the system.
Yes it can, I just replaced my pump earlier this year, I also had a high pressure line leaking, now after getting it all fixed back up, it looks like my Hydrobooster has started leaking behind the master cylinder. It is always something with these trucks.
The powersteering pump pressure feeds to the Hydrobooster first, then the other high pressure line feeds down to the steering box, there are 2 low pressure return lines, one from the hydroboost and one from the steering box, both of those return to the pump reservoir. If you replace the pump make sure you replace the white nylon washer that is on the high pressure line, as that is what seals it. Just a tip, the high pressure line fittings will move some even when they are tight.
You could try flushing again if the fluid is really dark in color. Should be a nice bright cherry red like new tranny fluid. Is there a chance you got any air into the system? That could cause what you describe too. If the fluid is nice and clean and there is no air than you probably need a pump.
