I plan on putting power steering on my truck as well as hydroboost brakes. Is there a certain pump I should be looking for or will most any PS pump be able to run steering and the hydroboost unit?
It depends on what PS box you are using. If you go with the Toyota box or the Ford type accessory power boost then a standard PS pump from a non R&P donor such as the pear shaped Saginaw pump will work. If using a R&P box such as with the MII type IFS then you would need a low pressure R&P pump. Just avoid the high pumps from the Luxo-barges like Caddy, Big Lincolns, etc.
I run an electric hydraulic pump from a Toyota MR2. It drives both the hydroboost brakes and my Mustang II rack. It is an awsome setup. I couldn't be happier with it. It robs no power from the engine and both steering and brakes work even if the engine were to quit.
I most likely plan to use the No Limit R&P kit. So this means I need a PS pump that came from a R&P vehicle? I will probably use a hydroboost unit from a large (f600) truck.
I was under the impression that all PS pumps were mostly universal just some have more flow than others.
I would check with No Limit for their pump recommendations for use with their steering unit. Pumps are universal, just pressure regulated for different uses. Some can have the pressure changed. Too high a pressure (luxo-barge pumps on R&P) can make the steering too sensitive or blow out seals at full lock, too low a pressure (R&P pump on power assist or recirc ball box) can feel like manual steering.

Tell me more about this pump.
Was it difficult to install?
Where do you have it mounted?
Do you have pictures of it?
What hydroboost unit are you using?
I like the idea of steering and brakes if the engine dies.
I would like to see someone on here try out these 'other' options and see it they are viable. Never know, it might be the answer everyone is looking for when it comes to this modification.

Flaming River (googled it) has an electric steering box and it looks really good. The price is not good though.
Saturn VUE's had electric P/S, not sure about other models. Electric P/S will also be found in various Honda/Acura, Toyota/Scion/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, Mitsubishi, Hyundai/Kia, Suzuki and prolly others as well.
The major complaint is: No road feel.
"Pear shaped" Saginaw P/S pump: 1975 and later Econolines / 1972/76 Thunderbird/Lincoln & Mark IV / 1974/78 LTD/Mercury Marquis (460 engine only) / Some 1978/83 Fairmont/Zephyr / Some 1979/80 Granada/Monarch/Lincoln Versailles.
The Ford P/S pump is essentially the same from 1965/77, has a steel reservoir.
In 1978 Ford changed the design of the pump, it now has a plastic reservoir. The mounting brackets and the various P/S pressure hoses are specific to this newer pump.

I had the system installed professionally. I've done almost everything else on my truck and when I was planning on a vacuum assist power brake unit, I planned to do that also, but this system looked a little above my skill level. It is actually pretty straight forward and the components were pricey, but I LOVE the result.
I'll get the equipment specifics and post them for you all soon (or do another gallery on the complete install).
