I need some help since my local Ford dealer can't figure out what they did to my truck.
I recently purchased a 2008 f350 V10 4X4 crew Manual trans. 50k miles. I brought it home and noticed it was leaking oil fairly steady over time. Took it to my local dealer and they said it was leaking from the oil pan gasket. Repair of this problem requires pulling the motor out! So they pull the motor-replace rear main seal and oil pan gasket.
I get in my truck and drive off the service center lot and notice a loud metal tinny rattle coming from underneath the drivers side floorboard. It rattles at 2250 to 2500 RPM under load (driving). I can hear it 1st through 4 gear at those RPM ranges. When the truck warmes up the noise goes away.
The dealer replaced both CAT's and Y-pipe assembly-It did not fix the problem. My truck has been back to the dealer 2 times for this problem and still no fix. The last time I took it there the dealer asked if I wanted them to take it to Midas to see if they could figure it out.....
dont know if the man. trans has the same inspection cover between the block and trans as the auto's do, but if so that thin metal plate is prone to vibrating and sounding EXACTLY what ur describing..
most people get under there with a screwdriver and simply pry it away a bit at the bottom to give it enuf clearance so it doesnt have anything to vibrate on
