I have a 2000 f3500 sd with the v10 gas engine. Its making a knocking\ticking noise at idle and in park. once in gear the noise is gone.If I unplug the maf and iat by filter the noise becomes very faint.Once in gear it runs good with no noise. oil pressure is 3/4 on the guage oil is a fresh change 10/30 + some lucus. I only hear the noise coming from the driver side wheel well torwards the back of the engine.Hot or cold this noise is still there and if reved up in park it goes away.No codes besides the 1 I tripped from undoing the intake. I have a good dianostic code scanner that can read timing and vacuum.
ive dissconnected coil packs 1 by 1 no change in noise
tightend up some exhaust bolts that where leaking but if that was the case I think the noise wouldnt go away with load or rpm.
used a scope to hear around spark plugs so no blow by there.
It doesnt get louder as rpms are dropping after a rev like avg rod knock.
10-30 is way too thick and since you added Lucas your pretty much running 20-50. Put the correct weight, 5-30 in it and run only a motorcraft 820s filter. You could have broken exhaust manifold studs, loose torque converter bolts, piston slap, etc. can you post a video? Also, throw that bottle of snake oil ( lucas) in the trash. Modular Motors do not need " additives".
ok changed oil to 5-30 didnt swap the filter tho didnt change a thing. Pulled the codes again this time I got a misfire on cly 5 which I belive is all the way back on pass side. does any1 know if you can ohm out these coils and injectors? what the resistance should be?

A little late for the oil but disconnect the cops one at a time while someone closely watches the tach.

An easy way of doing it...is to change (swap) the #5 COP to a different cylinder...and see if the code follows. If you do have a bad COP...replace the spark plug boot at same time. Will help ease your mind about the fix.
The exhaust bolts do have a rep of rusting and breaking.
