I would get the plugs checked out to be sure.

The noise could also be the little flimsy inspection cover on the front of the transmission. To rule it out I would remove the two bolts holding it on and take it for a drive to see if the sound went away.

Check your exhaust manifold bolts. They may be broken off and causing some leakage.

If one is broke then more will be soon to follow. You may not see any soot or exhaust blow by but it will be leaking.

I forgot to mention the broken studs.

Price all depends on the shop and how easily the old studs come out. You should really get all studs replaced, more will break eventually.

Quote from my Ford dealer. $1,050 for all 20 replaced. I don't actually consider this too bad of a price. The job is very labor intensive.

Make sure they put in stainless steel replacement studs. This is where your valve noise is coming from too. You are posting the same question basically in 2 different posts.

My dad got all the studs removed (2 drilled out with helicoil installed) new studs, new gaskets for under $600. Of course this was at a local garage with a labor rate far less than what the stealership charges. For the stealership prices that doesn't sound out of line.

5 studs were broken between the two manifolds on my dads and there was no noises coming from a leak at the manifolds.

The factory studs are stainless as well, however corrosion isn't what causes them to break. The studs are usually sheared off at the base of the threads.

Hey 900...did you get it fixed?? Mine is doing the exact same thing. I replaced the broken studs. It helped, but it still seems to make that noise just like you are talking about. I havnt checked out the inspection plate deal yet. Thanks!
