water pump out?

My 93 turbo diesel is leaking coolant out the front from what looks like the main pulley area (the pulley below the fan). Is this my water pump?

yep, there is a weep hole under the pump shaft. When stuff is worn out it begins to leak. Does the shaft have any play if you wiggle the pulley?

I'll have to check the shaft tomorrow, it also leaks while it is not running. Is that still consistent with water pump failure? Also will I need any special tools to replace this?

You may need to rent the tool to take the fan hub (left hand thread) off, and yes it will leak when the engine is not running. Other than the fan all you should need is a wrench.

Autozone or advance should be able to loan you one. Its basically a fork that goes around the heads of the bolts on the waterpump pulley to keep it from spinning while you turn the fan hub nut. there's also ones that use an air hammer to break the hub free but they're kinda spendy for something used not all that often.

I had to buy an 1 7/8 wrench because the renal tool ones weren't able to turn the nut

I bought a cheapo 15" crescent wrench from Harbor Freight for about 15 bucks, that works great and use this method to hold the pump shaft.
