I have a 2010 F150 XLT SC. I have the automatic headlight option so I just leave the headlight switch on the auto setting.Lately I noticed during the day the headlights will come on.I know this since the dash lights dim.If I switch the headlights to off the dash lights will get bright again. There is nothing covering the sensor which is in the center of the dash right behind the windshield. Has anyone else had this problem and is there an adjustment for the sensor. It doesn't do it all the time just intermitinly so I hate to take it to the dealer.
From what I understand, the sensor on the dash is a two-function unit. The left half controls the headlights on/off and the right adjusts the dash illumination to outside light conditions. On my truck I've noticed that it is usually at sunup/sundown (and driving into the sun) that the headlights will be 'off' but the dash stays dim so you can't see the gauges very well. I've heard the the fix is to cover the right side of the dash sensor with black tape.
