Ok I have one here that I will be selling soon because I just upgraded.
I have a Snap-on MT-2500 with the programable cartridges that cover up
to 2006. It's also know as the red brick. It does a very good job with codes
and even will clear some that the SGII won't. It will talk with the
can and non-can buss systems and can tell you want P000 is with out having
to look it up most times. You can find them on Ebay.
One thing about AE is you need to get a laptop and the Panasonic Tough Book
would be my first pick do to the fact it is a hard service laptop with armor.
You can stick it under the seat and not worry about someone sitting too
hard on it.
The only thing I'm trying to figure out is what things you guys are monitoring. I'm using the Torque app on my Android phone. I've got ECT, trans temp, and boost at the moment. I'm trying to figure out how to get EOT. That leaves me two spaces on the screen yet for gauges. What else should I be monitoring?
Did you forget that you have a fleet of 25 6.0L trucks .............. If you haven't been using it on any of them, then I don't see how you can brag on its abilities with the Ford OBDII w/ CAN platform.
As far as a Mercedes goes - well thats good but it doesn't add any assurance regarding the 6.0L.
I am not doubting it is a good tool, but you seem a little biased to your neighbors product. You have done a good job posting the PIDs it reads. That has been convincing and helpful. Just do that w/ the DTC's it reads as you experience them (with other peoples trucks of course .....).
I haven't worked for that company in quite a while. And from 2003-2009 only 1 truck out of over 25 was a red-headed step child.
I am also one that doesn't go around drinking the kool-aid.
Coolant temp
Oil temp
Trans temp
FICM Main Power
Injection Control Pressure
Battery voltage
I'm thinking of making the 2nd page this:
Engine load
Gear with TCL
Injector pulse width
Turbo boost
Fan
IPR
Thanks for all the info. I am also using Torque for now. I placed my 6 most important PIDs on a single page, placing them on the outer edges and then placed a few smaller digital readouts centered between them. All I need to do is glance at them and I know if everything is ok.
I still have plenty of questions about its accuracy and proper values that I should see. I plan on reading your provided links next.
What is the refresh rates on the Torque App? Pretty much instant or delayed like SG2?
Josh
I'm not sure on the refresh rate for the SGII, but Torque is less than a second I would guess. I think it is quick enough, but I don't have anything to compare it to. Now I will pay attention and probably be disappointed. Thanks

An etch-a-sketch has better refresh rates than SG2 LOL

I would say a second or less. The numbers seem to move consistently and I don't see any drop-offs. This is with my cheap Chinese Bluetooth OBD-II dongle as well. So far I'm loving the app. It does a lot of super handy things.
