I have had a Ford truck most life starting in 1978. I am now nearing retirement and I want to get back to the basics. By basics I mean a truck that is carbureted, has no computer and essentially no sensors.
Does any one know the last year Ford was making these trucks?
What exactly are you wanting to avoid? If everything, you will have to stay below around 1974. Around 75 they went to electronic ignition and catalytic convertors on some trucks.
By 1980 most still had carbs, but they were loaded with emissions and smog pumps. Hoses and vacuum switches everywhere. Certain trucks made for places like California started using some electronics, but most will just have a smog carb and electronic ignition.
Around the mid 80's(84?) the six cylinder had a carb but it was computer controlled.
In 85 the 302 went to fuel injection, the six still had a computer controlled carb, and the 351w and the 460 were still regular smog carbs and lots of vacuum lines.
If you want the latest truck you can buy, with no smog, no catalytic convertors, no computers, hardly any wires or vacuum lines, the best truck to get is one of the old diesels. They have nothing on them, and need nothing to pass inspections till they quit making them in 1994.
My '82 F150 came out with the computer-controlled 2bbl carb on the 351W and had DS-III ignition, which is also controlled by the computer. And lots of the vacuum hoses, switches, solenoids, etc. And, it had two cats - one in front of the other on a single exhaust system. The F250 above something like 8600 GVW might have been different.
In '84 IIRC, and certainly by '85, the 351HO was offered. I had thought all 351's were HO then, but understand that the 2bbl was also offered as well. I don't know about it, but the HO's 4bbl Holley 4180 carb wasn't computer-controlled and it had DS-II ignition. And, it had a cat - or two. And LOTS of vacuum hoses.

You are correct on the 351 HO. DS-11,TWO CATS (one behind the other),
MILES of vacuum hoses,etc...(You know how that I know)
Also, double roller cam chain, factory stuff..
Yes, there were the 351W with the two barrel.(Don't know about the double roller cam chains on them, for sure)but think just single..
San Jose Assymbly plant: Code R (Plant Closed in 1983)
Don't know how this helps you to remember now though...
Actually, it does help. I was wanting to say the plant was KC, but wasn't sure although I knew it was there or StL or somesuch. As for DSO, it was either KC or Dallas - was there a Dallas DSO code?
