I am new to this forum so I apologize in advance if I do something wrong. I have a 99 f250 sd with the v10,it has only 73,000 miles on it and finally spit the #4 plug, original plugs, I know the fix but was hoping somebody would know of a reputable mechanic around olympia,wa area that has and can fix the plug? Thank you
Just check around and do not fall for the old "cab comes off or engine comes out ploy!"
I had my heads pulled at a shop who does this a lot and had heads redone with inserts for all of them.....cost....$2400.00. I had quotes for pulling motor or pulling the cab and the prices were from $4-4.5 K. And that was just just do one insert.
Thank you CPaulsen, So the heads can be pulled with the cab on? Can all 10 inserts be placed with the heads or cab on, it look impossible to get to the back ones, but I guess with the right tools and know how it can be done. I figure if I am going to pay someone to fix 1,I might as well pay to do all 10 then I dont have to worry about it anymore. It just seems to be impossible to find anyone around here that has done this before except the dealers. but will keep looking
I could probably fix the one plug if i bought the time-sert kit howerver i am worried that if i start to replace the plugs that they will start to do the same thing, thats when it seems to start doing this, not sure, my daughter drives the truck often and i dont want it to leave her stranded, and the 2 back ones on either side look like a pain to do, longview is only a 1hr and 15min away, i wouldnt have a problem going that far if he is a good mechanic and has done these before.

My dad and his buddy each have one timesert and have never had another plug pop in over 10 years, so it is quite possible you would only have to do the one.

Changing the plugs is much easier than it looks. I was fully prepared to spend a full day doing it. It only took about 2 hours and that was fiddle-farting around the whole time.

He works at an auto shop, but also does work on the side. If you don't want to tackle it yourself let me know and I will get hold of him.
Thats good to know that it is possible i may never have another one let go, I may just by the time sert kit and try it my self and change the plugs out at the same time. Hopefully it wont happen again, should I buy the spark plugs from a ford garage or from a auto part store or does it matter? Thank you Big Pig for your help, If I decide not to attempt It I will let you know.
and you can buy the insert separately for only $10.
The plug change job is really quite easy, even the rear ones. From talking to those who have done the timesert, it is also pretty simple. I did talk with my brother and he is calling around to find someone up there who could do the job is you want to hire it out (he is booked tight right now).
I cant thank you enough for your help! Please let me know if your brother does find somebody that can do the job, just in case. I am in no hurry to fix it,although I do miss driving it. It drives and rides so much better than my dodge cummins. That price for the tool is way cheaper that I saw anywere else, I too am a prime member so that should be my price also. Thanks again
Stop at the local Cut Rate Auto Parts and ask the counter guys where you should take your truck. They sell a lot of parts and will know who is doing this work and who is dependable.
For you guys not in the Olympia area, yes, there is a chain called Cut Rate Auto Parts (read the initials).
