I just got off the phone with autozone and they checked and the 5.4 calles for the same pluge from 98 -up, they dont list motocraft in 05 but its the same champion plug as earlyer, so if it ever got more threads in the head it would need a longer plug right???
It has a comparison shot between the non-PI and PI heads. It doesn't apprear to move the location of the plug, just has more threads. The PI heads also add about 40 HP, if I remember correctly.
Ford did fix the problem....but not until 2003 MY. If you go to a shop that sells Motorcraft parts or to a Ford dealership (not much difference in price anyway) you'll find they have 2 PN's for the plugs. Either start with AWSF-XXX or AGSF-XXX. You can use AGSF plugs in any Modular engine...you'll just be using the bottom portion of the threads. Use the AWSF in heads that require the AGSF and you'll tear up the threads in the head because you'll be inserting the unthreaded part of the plug before the seat into the threads in the head...effectively ruining them.
Why can't a person use a helicoil on the damaged sparkplug hole? Helicoil makes a helicoil for sparkplug holes....
You could....but Time makes a specific kit for this issue and I think it's the best way to fix this problem as you don't have to remove the heads and the repair is permanen. Also allows for the useage of the fully threaded plugs.
Do you know the build date?
It should be stamped below the VIN plate under the hood.
If it is after Nov 14th 2002, then you will have the 8 thread heads, otherwise you will have the 4 thread heads.
