My 76 F100 2WD's steering is acting weird and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. The issue(s) are: when I make a turn whether it be left or right, I have to physically turn the steering wheel back straight. I haven't messed with the steering gear box. Some other issues are: when driving down the road and hit just a little rut or rough road and the wheel catches it, I go to correct it and the truck over reacts (if that makes sense), I turn it a little and the truck moves a lot and it take some effort to get it straight again. Some times I notice when making a left turn, the truck feels like it has four wheel steering...
I didn't notice any of these issues before I replaced the following (all in the same day):
Center link, tie-rod ends, wheel bearings, king pins, brake calipers, coil springs, and beam bushings.
Everything is tight and there is no play in the pitman arm or rag joint. I did the alignment myself and set the toe-in 1/8th". It drives straight, doesn't pull, and stops straight without holding the steering wheel. All the linkage is tight,
I think maybe that the PO tightened the worm gear to compensate for slop in the steering and maybe it needs loosened up now? Or maybe it's just worn out? The coil springs I took off were old and had been cut to lower the truck and I put stock ones back on so did I create a Caster/ Camber issue? Thanks.
