sloppy steering

I have a 1974 F100 2wd with manual steering and I am wondering what could be causing all of the play in the steering wheel? I have had the truck up between 80-90mph and it is real smooth, no shimmys,shakes, squeaks, or rattles. But there is alot of play in the steering wheel all of the time from sitting still to driving at any speed. I am just wondering what this could be and any advice on how I should go about fixing the problem. Thanks

Most likely the gear box is just wore out, could be a worn rag joint too, have someone turn the steering wheel while you check it out and see where the excessive play is coming from.
