I have an early build 03 with the 6.0psd that has a few weird symptoms currently going on. One symptom I'm having is at an idle the trucks rpm fluctuates (jumps) approx 150rpm up and down. The other is that between 35mph and 60mph the truck seems to have a lack of power (shuddering) unless I lay into the throttle then it seems fine.
I had it into the dealers about 600 miles ago for a new IPR and this started doing these symptoms about 150 miles ago.
I have new ford fuel filters yesterday, new ficm with newest flash at the dealers also.
The truck isn't throwing any codes and isn't smoking (white or black).
I'm thinking it may be the ICP as it seems to be getting worse the more I drive it.
Also has new oil and filter, engine flushed and new coolant.
Temps are normal and turbo shows proper boost on my gauges.
Running out of money and patience with the ol' girl so any help is much appriciated.
I would get some gauges that would enable you to monitor the ICP values. Is the sensor or connector oil soaked? The sensor and connector are not all that expensive - just a pain to replace.
I had the egr out and cleaned it, it wasn't very dirty at all.
Wondering tho if it's supposed to make a noise when you shake it?
It makes a clunking noise inside the body but the plunger seems to seat fine and is tight.

Yes, that sound is normal. The idle fluctuation sounds like ICP sensor. The low power could have something to do with the reflash the dealer did.
Benny Directed me to the map sencer and hose connection no stall or surge for three days the little 1/4 threaded line gets pluged up 22cal wire brush works great. worth a try and doent cost a thing about 15/ 20 minutes of your time
Well, I checked to see if there was any oil coming from the ICP and both the harness and ICP are completely dry.
Anyone know what gauges I would need to get to monitor the ICP values as bismic mentioned?
Also, I took a drive today (approx 50 miles) and the truck didn't show any sign of the shudder problem and didn't have nearly the fluctuating rpm at idle as it did yesterday. Very confusing.
The only difference from yesterday and today is it's much cooler outside.
Thanks for the help all.
I had a similar rpm fluctuation....but only at idle. My Camshaft Position Sensor was throwing off some weird values and wasn't syncing with the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Ended up narrowing it down to the Camshaft sensor and replaced it. Idles steady now.
Big ball ,Keep ur cool with these trucks there is a lot of sencers the scan gauge will help . Now under the dash throttle pedalsensor ? why not try and spray it clean there was a post that I read the old boy was from Alaska makes sence with all the Ice /snow melt In my case dirt /dust and farm life its worth a try, I'll be doing mine tomarrow. good luck and remember these guys here on FTE are full of great answers for the 6.0s. Keep us posted Please.
Thanks everyone for all your help so far.
I'm going to order the blue spring kit today and will let everyone know if it makes a difference whenever I have it installed. Also looking at some gauges that will read a bit more than my flashpaq or OBD II will read.
I'll let ya's know what it was causing the grief soon as I get it worked out.
Thanks again all
