I had this happen - no start after filter change. The issue was air in the system since the oring at the top did not seal at the canister. First i pulled the fuel line off the secondary and made sure i saw fuel. Then i went under the truck and dropped the black canister again and used another oring actually reused the old one as i found a burr on the new one and removed the new one. Cleaned old one and wiped with diesel and carefully made sure that the oring did not roll. Make sure the canister is tight and fully seated. I purged for more than six times. Finally started, but was freaked out and the wife factor did not help. Hope this helps as remember this like yesterday.
That is what I was thinking that it is not seated all the way. A Ford mechanic said he had this happen to him, but it ran just long enough to get down the street and died. It felt like the filter had seated but is was 1 turn short. The only caution is he also mentioned that he has seen a few come in with that tab broken off from over doing it.
Its a pain but if you look real hard, watch your head I smacked it on the frame trying to see this, you can see the tab match up on the top.
I think I did 7 or 8 purges just to be sure. You can hear the fuel running thru the filter. I have never heard any of the groans that some of the videos have had. The pump only runs like 25 seconds and you can hear it turn off.
My fuel system has all sorts of groans and squeaks after a filter change...lol.
I purge at least 8 times, usually end up doing more until there are less squeaks.
A claim of vandalism might be the only thing that can save some of us from a $20K+ repair bill.
I agree. That is the reason that I installed a lock on the fuel door. If door is damaged it would be vandalism and covered by insurance.
As to your prior question regarding where I read that some insurance companies not covering this........ I will have to go back and find the thread(s) here on FTE. There were a lot of folks calling their insurance agents right after the Ricatic ordeal.
Hello all..thanks again for all your help. Got the filters changed last night and put 200 miles on today and no problems. The old filters are not dry all the way but seeing very little def crystals at all. Think im good to go. I really appreciate all your help. And if I ever do that again it will be time to put myself in the diesel rehab center !!!!

Thats great news. Hope all continues well for you and your truck.
Glad to hear that your truck is running well, hopefully it will not give you trouble down the road! I really wish there was some sort of warning sticker in the fuel filler area that would have in big red letters "In case of misfueling DO NOT START ENGINE".

I agree 100% ad many horror stories that we do here about.most folks never visit a diesel site.so i imagine alot more happens than we know. A red. Sticker great idea. Or fuel and def nannies talking to ya when a cap is removed. Diesel fuel only. Or def only boy people would get tired of hearing that.but if it saved ya thousands of$$$$ it would be great..
What about doing something like big warning of your own on the DEF cap so you have to move it or something....they extra time may wake you up to the impending doom?

Yes I have been thinking along that line also. Not sure what yet...will come up with something though.
