People are on the phone, thinking about work, thinking about family; stuff happens and you screw up.
Everyone on this forum has done something stupid in their life so lets not worry about that.

Anyways, yes do not start the truck after this.
I bet if you pull your DFCM filter and let it dry, it will turn white with dry DEF.
You're right though, at least get those filters changed.

The downside is with this type of issue, I bet the tow truck driver will have to turn the key to on to get it out of park. So DEF could get in the fuel lines because the pump runs but at least the HPFP won't process it.
The dealer can clean the tank and replace the lines but the HPFP would be safe in that scenero.

Hey Randy, do you remember where you read that? and/or which companies were mentioned that weren't covering repairs? Its a hot topic for those of us paying extra for mechanical breakdown insurance with the hopes of covering a HPFP failure. So far I've heard that GEICO MBI will cover these types of failures; but at this point I've only heard it third hand and haven't found anyone who has actually gone through the claim process. Just curious. (former South Shore Harbour guy...man I miss League City!)

Since your truck has not died yet you may be in the clear. I would go buy a bunch of fuel filters and change them every time you fill up for the next three tank's to get all the crap out and I would run A bottle of the lucas fuel conditioner in each tank also just to keep thing's lubed up.

Should always smack the fuel inertia switch. it wont matter then.the tow truck driver could do what he needs. the pump wont run the engine wont run. how ever if you dont take it to dealer for a drain and flush. i would load it with diesel fuel addative. and do as Kyper 05 recommends. at least change both filters.and see if they turn white with crystals. Your at a crappy point right now, because if dealer gets wind of this theres alot of crap that possibly could happen.I commend you for saying Help what should i do. we all mess up.its just a when.

I will add to painted horse by saying yes gm done good by putting DEF elsewhere.

I called GEICO sales and then the GEICO claims department prior to changing my insurance coverage. The claims department confirmed that MBI would cover HPFP failure. I've never filed a claim though.

Thats good to know but, I'd feel alot better about it if we could locate someone or a thread with someone who has actually exercised it. I could easily see any insurance company saying "Oh, well, the rep you spoke with was misinformed. Here's your money back. Claim DENIED."

I have GEICO, and I called and asked if it would be covered if Ford denied coverage because water in fuel, they said it would be covered. But GEICO only covers the first hundred thousand miles. You must add the option to your policy to be covered for this.

With what it costs to repair these I think there are 2 things Ford should do. 1) seperate the two fillers from each other and 2) have a locking fuel door to prevent vandalism.

A claim of vandalism might be the only thing that can save some of us from a $20K+ repair bill.

Only use the motorcraft fuel filters.
Especially now.
Also, bust open your engine mounted filter after changing and let it dry to see if it shows signs of DEF.

His pump won't blow up right away with a small amount of water.
But if DEF reached it, damage is done and it will slowly begin the failing process.
BUT hopefully it's so little of an amount that nothing happens or that it didn't reach the HPFP at all.

Good idea on the switch, I forget about that.
That's been mentioned before and I failed to remember.

I am one who likes where the DEF is.
It does open up for a fuel mistake but adding DEF to somewhere in the engine compartment would be a difficult task for a 5' 9" guy...LOL.
It's hard enough changing oil.
