overdrive lite

overdrive lite not working but overdrive still works....... how hard is it to check,,change that lite (truck in sig)

Take the plastic cover off of the steering column. Inspect the wires where they enter the shift handle. One or more of the wires is broken or worn through. Either repair the wires or replace the shift handle. A new one is about $65 at a Ford dealer.

overdrive will still work with the light off by default.. the light on overrides the overdrive (thats a mouthful). are you saying the button is operational then but the light doesn't work? my '99 had a spell where it would only work when it wanted to, the light and the function both.

yea the overdrive still works and the off lite still works but if it throws a tranny code i wont know... i will fix it this sat..

The handle is not that hard to replace. Take the cover off the steering column and remove the pin for the shifter and disconnect the wire. Put in the shifter, install pin and connect wire. Nothing really hard or fancy about it.
