E40D test port depth?

just installed an auto meter gauge and screwed the sending unit into the test port.i used to have a meter with it's sending out in the line before cooler.thought id try the test port this time with new gauge.

it's my understanding they make a long and a shallow sending unit (auto meter.)
the one that came with the gauge is the long one.
just want to make sure here,that the E40D/4r100 have test ports that go into a wide open hole so putting in auto meters long sending unit isn't going to hurt a dang thing for these trans right?
can't seem to search and find 100% confirmation.rather know for sure before i fire her up.
just read a horror story of someone who did this (screwed auto meters long sender into test port) to a latter diesel auto truck and it snapped the end off the sender!

a google search lead to this,and i don't think they're correct.i really thought the e40d's test port was all open?

be sure to check out post #10 for the pics of each.

i may want to stick with the trans out line monitoring for plowing anyway.but id like to try this port again cus its been a while.the sending unit for old gauge was much shorter so i never questioned it at the time.

the one that came with gauge:

Remove the plug and stick a screwdriver in.

Compare the depth with the sender.

Neither the E4OD nor the 4R100 have a wide open port. Both are fairly short openings. If your sender is much longer than 1/2" it will bottom out and potentially break off in the port.

ok thanks Mark.i better put an extension/bushing in or get the short sensor.
edit;
just ordered the short one via amazon overnight delivery.get 'er done and worry free tomorrow.
so with two sensors i'll finally get around to wiring up both on a switch,so i can monitor outlet fluid temps (no issues with the long one fitting in my custom build T per-radiator as long as it doesn't block flow.i may need an extension) and keep an eye on the quick fluid raises when plowing.
