I have a 2002 excursion with the 5.4 liter. I havent had it very long. After finaly getting it to stop missing, I have noticed it not wanting to shift from 1st to 2nd. and when it does it is very harsh. It is also shuddering around 45 or so. I added some sea foam trans tune and it has helped it shift more smoothly. If you excelarate hard, it shill shifts hard. I am going to change the fluid and filter after put a few more miles and let the sea foam do its thing.

First, after the fluid and filter change what shoul I do?

Second, I read about the sonnax tricumulator kit and was wondering if that is something I should do when I change my fluid and filter? If so, where can I get it for the best price?

Third, just because the torque convertor is shuddering oes that mean it needs replaced? Does it mean the it has trashed the rest of the tranny?

I am planning to go the the local tranny shop and see if there are any codes in the morning. I am trying to avoid dumping any more money than I have to. I dont mind spending some just not wasting any.

Take it to a shop and see if there are codes.

When was the last service on the transmission? Or was it ever serviced?

 

I just bought it but rumor has it that the tranny was rebuild about 30000 ago. I went to the local tranny shop that use to advertise free diagnostics and they wanted to chaarge me 40.00 to read the codes. I am in the process of finding someone who will not charge an arm and leg to check for codes.
Does any one know of any good tranny shops near 24740, sothern WV?
