Hey guys, just hoping to get a little wisdom or links. Truck rolled 300k miles not to long ago and shes gettin a little arthritis. Heres some of the aching joints. Any input, links, help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
1. AC Compressor Clutch is making noise, want to change it out before i get stranded on the side of the road again. anything special i need to know to change it myself?
2. Ignition switch - have to jiggle it to get it to turn and i can take the keys out while driving it no problem. Its starting to get hard to turn even with the jiggling method.
3. I have an extended cab and the rear drivers side door wont open. Broke the cable and the bottom latch wont let lose and i cant for the life of me figure out how to jimmy it open to fix it.
4. Lots of popping comming from the front end mostly on bumpy roads. i believe its beyond sway bar links at this point. tires are wearing bad to the inside. I've heard of a front end rebuild kit?? what all does the take care of?

The AC clutch can be adjusted using a shim kit available from Ford. Search this site for instructions on how to do it, that might solve the problem for you.
did the cable for the rear door break for the top release? if so you can unbolt the thing that the door latches on to....if its the bottom one its gonna be tough.....my father in law just did this on his extended cab...had to order the whole setup thats on the inside of the door....not hard just time consuming......
as for the ignition cylinder....they are easy to change.....just make sure you get the cylinder for the tailgate so they match keys unless you dont use the tailgate lock.....
front end rebuild should probably be new sway bar links and bushings....ball joints....and tie rod stuff....moog sells a kit for like 1000 bucks that replaces all the steering components and ball joints.....
kelvarnson - about a month ago i took the plate off and removed a shim to get it to engage again without sticking and works great, but now its making a whining noise and sounds dry like its fixing to go out completely.
indy - yea its the bottom release that is busted and it busted right at the latch mechanism. as for the ignition cylinder i didnt even think about that for the tailgate also but thats a good idea even though i dont use it dont mean i never will and as for the front end rebuild i believe i may just go ahead and let ford do the job. i aint scared to do some mechanic work but when its comes to my steering and wheels staying on im starting to feel like i should just let someone who knows what they are doing handle that lol thanks for the input
I went and cranked up my truck walla go and the clutch wasnt making much noise but i noticed that the tensioner pulley - the spring one - was moving a little with the belt. is this normal? when i say with the belt i mean it was moving in the same direction as the belt and not from like engine toward radiator motion... does that make sense?
ok i pulled the belt off and turned, pulled, spun all of the pulleys and the only one that has a little bit of play is the one on the ac compressor. So if i change out the pulley and clutch is that going to cure the problem? Found that there is a coil in the ac compressor... does this need to be changed too?
Trying to go to the deer lease this weekend and got to get parts today... On the list is:
1. Drive belt tensioner
2. Drive belt
3. ac compressor clutch?? pulley?? is this all??
The coil is probably what pulls the clutch in. If the clutch works, the coil should be OK.
I recommend doing a search on this in this forum. There's all kinds of posts about adjusting the clutch gap, there may be mentions of other problems associated with the compressor.
