Where does this female plug go? (engine compartment)
I was doing a timing cover job and found a plug/wire at the bottom of the compartment not hooked to anything. Been like that for years. Where does it go? 90 5.0
Its a female plastic black plug with two wires in a heat sheath. One wire is yellow with a green stripe, the other looks white with a red stripe. It originates on the drivers side behind the air cleaner wig lots of other wires. It's about 18 in long and looks like it could connect somewhere in a/c or distributor area?
I'll post a pic of it tomorrow.
Yup, that is what I was thinking. Look at your power steering hoses. The pressure side(which comes out of back of pump) should have a pressure switch mounted in it that this plugs into.
What it does it bump the RPM when you are at idle and turn the steering wheel. To keep from stalling motor.
The dirty white wire with the red stripe could be a gray wire with a red stripe. Looking at the wiring diagram that should be the power steering. I looked on the pump and I don't see a place to hook it to. Maybe why it was just laying there. I'll try to find some pictures of the pump online so I know where to look.
The power steering pressure switch was only used with certain engine/transmission combinations, so if there isn't an error code for it in the computer, the truck probably never had a PSPS.

OR, the Op replaced the pressure hose with the one without the sensor. If turning the steering wheel at idle doesn't try to stall the engine just tuck the plug in a safe place and don't worry about it....

The sensor will be in the high pressure line near the pump, not on the pump itself....

It would set a code if someone replaced the hose without reinstalling the PSPS. I have a constant code 51 since I did not reinstall the PSPS on my truck. The engine doesn't stall or try to stall, so other than the trouble code, I don't notice any difference.
My 87 is 302 and manual transmission, so maybe yours is supposed to have one too. Check your codes and see if there is a code 52 during KOEO. EEC IV Self Test hookup
