Crown Vic conversion

I will be putting the CV on my 71. I will also be installing a 460.

For the guys that have done this, what oil pan and high volume oil pump did you use? Also were the headers and C6 crossmember reusable after the CV swap?

You will need a rear sump pan. I have a stock pump in my 460 but you would need to modify the pan to work with a high volume pump. Headers reusable? Do you currently have a 460 in the truck with headers? The headers you want are for the '73-'79 F series 2wd with a 460. C6 crossmember? Never heard of such a thing. I had a 302 in my truck prior to the 460. We just slid the crossmember back further in the truck. I did have my driveshaft shortened.

I do not have a 460 Curently in the truck. I pulled the 460 out of a 1971 truck, and it had the headers. It also had a c6 installed which I pulled out aswell. At first glance the crossmember looks different. Although I have been wrong on more occasions then I would like to admit.

Thanks for the help on the oil pan, keep up the good work on your truck.

If the 71 was 2wd they should work just fine. There may be a 460/C6 crossmember. I know all we did with my truck was move the trans crossmember for the 302/C6 back a few inches.

Why do you need to modify the pan for a HV pump? Even the rear sump pans have the small sump in the front for the pump. stock or high volume does not matter; they all fit. A Melling high volume pump, or any other brand for that matter, is the same size as a stock pump. Just a bolt in deal.

If I remember correctly Bobby (Instg8tor) has a high volume in his 460 & said a stock pan had to be modified. Just going on what he said. The pump sits on the side of the front of the pan & that area is formed specifically for pump clearance separate from the sump.

I picked up the cv unit today. Paid alittle more then most guys have been paying but I, that's another story. I ended up paying $500 for a wheel to wheel unit with all the hardware.

Sunday I will be installing this thing. I've searched what I think is every cv thread and I didn't see any pictures of what guys have done with motor mounts.

I have the 460 motor mounts that work with the stock crossmember. If anyone has any motormount pics please post.

If you pulled a 460 from a 1971 truck, it was swapped in. How do you know it's a 460? It could be a 429.

429/460: The bore is the same, measure the stroke to verify: 429 = 3.59" / 460 = 3.85"

429: 1968/73 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars & 1968/71 Thundebird.

460: 1968/78 Lincoln/Continental Mark / 1972/76 Thunderbird / 1973/78 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars / 1973/79 F100/350 / 1975/97 E250/350 / 1983/97 F250/350.

2003/2010 Mercury Grand Marquis & 2003/2012 Crown Vic's have Rack & Pinion steering / 1979/2002's have Ford integral P/S.

The motor is supposed to be a 460. I will meAsure the stroke to be sure. Thank you for the heads up about that and the stroke length. I honestly never even gave that a thought

The rear axel is stock, with a flipped front spring perch. The wheels are 2003 ford lightning wheels dipped in chrome. The fronts have 1" adapters and the backs have 3" adapters. The back wheels have been widden 2.25" and the tubs needed a bit of adjustment. If you use the stock wheel without the widening you would not need to "adjust the wheel well
