Oil is one of those things that no matter what kind of engine it is discussed over and over again. Oil analysis help I think but they aren't consistent IMO as all engines are different and varying in condition due to the way they've been treated.
Obviously higher zinc content is one of the things you look for that is a positive. I don't run synthetic in anything that doesn't specifically call for syn. And vice versa. Just be sure you change often and use good filters and you will not have any issues. I have owned and built countless engine and have never experienced one oil related failure in my life. That's why I think what I think, even if everyone else doesn't.
Just what I think. I'm a firm believer if you run the correct viscocity and you change often, oiling issues will not be an issue. Just my two cents from over the years. I don't believe in additives and synthetic this and that. I believe in clean oil. Now under certain circumstance I think some oil are better ie race engines etc. but on the street clean oil is > everything.
I pull sixteen thousand pound 5er all over the country and I can shear most oils down 10 or more weight. With Shaeffer's I can't.

I agree. I check and examine my oil every fill up. But, with winter and cold weather on the way up North here. And how thick the oil will become. Lucas aids in helping oil "stick" to the cylinder walls giving me some lubrication in the most critical time for an engine. Needless to say, my truck will be getting winterized during these next two weeks before it gets cold and a pain in the a** to do it.
I run delo Rich. I didnt do any research here on oil for the 7.3l but 2 of my friends recommended it. I ran rotella t6 synthetic in the 6.0l and that's part of the reason I wanted the 7.3l. Wanted to get away from the cost of synthetic oil every 3000 or so miles.
Really? Well I know one thing I will not have to purchase now. I appreciate the heads up. My family has all moved on to the 6.0,6.4, and 6.7 where they all use the additives. And seeing as I just cant let my 7.3 go, I figured it could only help in keeping her running.
Kinda like politics and religion isn't it! LOL!! I might give the Shaeffers a try Glenn. I kinda like what I hear from you and Blake. You say Joey likes it too?

I haven't run delo, but Dale at Tymar Performance told me it was a good oil to use and if bought at Costco when on sale it's a great price.
