Only when you dont need it!

Have been really considering changing from Motorcraft 15w-40 to Rotella 5w-40 synthetic. I have finally made up my mind and decided that my next oil change will be with the Rotella. After hearing the prices being thrown around here for a gallon of the Rotella synthetic, i was in autozone last night and decided to check on the local prices. $17.99 for a gallon and have 4 jugs left. So im thinking good things on the way out. On the way out, i pass by the other side of the oil wall and they have a new display setup and it has the rotella synthetic for $19.99. Dang it!

19 even at Wally World. 23.99 at Advance. Mobil 1 was 26 even at WalMart. I decided to make the switch to Rotella syn 5W-40 next time too and returned some conventional Valvoline Blue 15W-40.
If it's only a buck more at AutoHole I'll just go there. Much easier to get in and out of that place than WalMart.

I keep toying with the idea myself. But Im a tight wad and just havent been able to make myself shell out 80 bucks for oil. Been using Motorcraft at ~$12.00 for 5qt jug from wally world.

Do any of you guys run the delo 400 15w-40 low emmission? I have run it in my 7.3 for years. Only two oil changes into my 6.0 not sure if to stick with delo or go with something else.

I was in the same boat as you but i figured if its better for the truck then i am all for it. My plan is to buy a gallon every couple of weeks so it wont add up to be so much when the time comes around.

Fishfarmer , I've use it in my 03 - with about 80K miles and haven't had it to the dealership once . I think it's the best oil on the market , we use it in all our deisel engines , from Cat , Cummins to Perkins . In 35 years in bussiness , we've never had an engine fail , a little pricey but I think it's well worth the money. Synthetic oil is great but I change oil to often, construction bussiness means dusty , dirty conditions. But I remember what my Grandad told me - any clean oil is good oil.

Yeah thats what I do now twith the motorcraft, each time I go to wally world I pick up a jug. $12 is alot easier at a time then $36. Have to think about it I suppose.

Here is a shock for you. Here in British Columbia the Walmart price for the Mobil 1 is $41.00 plus change plus 12% tax and probably an enviro tax for a 5 litre jug. That's about 5 1/4 gallons.

You mean 1 1/4 gallons. That's some expensive stuff. If Mobil 1 diesel oil was $41 for 5 gallons I'd be all over it!

Amsoil all the way. 15w40 or 5w40.

As for Fram filters, they were the same price as the motorcraft at Advanced Auto, so why bother with fram when OEM is there at same price. Whoever is getting them 2 for $7 should suck em up at that price.

We generally do . Some guys have trouble getting PepBoys to honor the 2/$7 coupons for the 6.0 oil filters but I have taken advantage of it before. I walk out with a smile.

I took the coupons to Wal-Mart and they honored them; after they placed a phone call to the local Pepboy's to see if the coupons were legit! Try all the competition.
