Lowering rear end idea.....

I have read about cutting the rivits off of the front bracket and flipping it to get a 4-5 inch lower rear end. In my case i dont want that much. More like 2 inches. My thought here is to cut the rivits, redrill 4 holes 1.5-2 inches lower on the bracket, move the bracket up and not flip it at all. Obviously I would replace the rivits with grade 8 bolts.

Thoughts?

It'll work. However, I do recommend welding reinforcement plates and even adding some gussets to address the shear forces in a smaller area. In essence, make the outboard facing areas thicker and stronger.

That I can do. Thanks for the input.

btw, don't forget to measure and account for the pinion angle before and after to avoid a potential driveline vibration.

I'm wondering how this is working out for you?

from what I have been reading the resulting drop will be closer to 1/2 the amount you move the front pearch.

So by flipping the pearch and moving the spring 4-5 inches you would net approx 2.5" drop.

Your idea of moving the spring 1.5 or 2 inches would result in 1" drop....

I actually ended up putting a new lowering hanger on that gave me a 4" drop. Actually leveled the truck out nice.

glad it worked out for you.

I'd love to see a pic of your truck if you get a chance and maybe a link to the lowering shackle kit, that would help me out a lot.
