WHAT IS: "Critical Thinking"

I have heard of it, as a tool for making major decisions - it seems to be a set of logical analysis rules that are used to make choices more effectively.

Can anyone shine a bit more light on what they know about it?

What else is there:

Critical thinking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We could have a contest. Rep points or smiley faces for whoever can link to the most threads exhibiting a total lack of it.....

It seems kind of broad - as WIKI puts it. But inherently examines all sides of a thing.

SHORT or WEAK critical thinking (as opposed to strong) seems to be the "YUPPY" point of view

STRONG critical thinking appears to be a fair minded examination of all sides of a thing

~ it looks like I ripped open a pretty deep can of stuff here...

It's not new, even a person of average intelligence like myself uses critical thinking a the time. It's a buzzword.

You are too modest.

Another quick observation might be to say it applies logic and reasoning instead of emotion to decision making.

I'm thinking I could be really critical of this thread.

There's critical thinking and then there's thinking critically...

You think by criticizing your hypothesis. Like when you argue with someone, and look for contradictions in their point of view.

When you're building an engine, you don't think about how fun it's going to be driving down the freeway with a pretty girl. You think about all the things that can go wrong.

Same when you argue with someone. You look for contradictions in their point of view. You criticize. Look for flaws and contradictions in someone's belief or point of view..

I note that the root-word is "CRITIC". A critic is one who looks for all of the down-sides...

Which makes a lot of sense. You want to pick anything important apart to find any and all issues with it

~It shares company with the term "CRITICISM", which is an attack (generally speaking) against someone else's viewpoint
