I think my cps went bad again. Yesterday morning on my way to work my pickup kept cutting out and giving me whiplash. I made it to work and replaced the cps with a brand new one from ford. I drove it about 15 miles then it started doing it again. But this time it left me stranded on the side of the road when it went to cut out it completly died. I waited about 30 minutes then it drove just fine for about 5 miles. Let it sit another 30 minutes then it drove fine for another 5 miles untill it died again. Is it a possability the cps went out again? The one that was in there was only about 3 months old, and if so why would I be going through cps so fast?
it was up to normal temp when it died but not all the way cold when it started again. mine runs at the "N" on normal when its all the way warm. and it was at the line just before the n when i started it and drove it again.
Sticky IPR maybe? Next time it's running try unplugging the ICP, sometimes this gets it to unstick. Check for oil in ICP. Then plug it back in. That's my best guess anyway.
Watch the tach when it happens. If the tach drops off whenever it hiccups, suspect the CPS, wiring, PCM, etc. If not, if it stays up with the actual engine speed, then look more toward the fuel/hydraulics side.
I've heard tell that the camshaft can "walk" on its bearings, and the reluctor teeth (or whatever) on the cam that the CPS picks up, instead of them going by real close to the CPS, they come right in contact with it, and damage it. Did the one you remove look like the end had been in contact with something?
No it looked brand new, no dings or nicks or anything, It literally looked brand new, it was only 3 months old. I just got done cleaning the ipr on it and I noticed when it was running the alternator wiers touched the back of the altanator and sparked. Do you think this might have somthing has to do with it.
