The only experience I have with Hookers is from my father in laws 86 chevy. He has a built 350 in it, but he has gone through 3-4 sets. He had 2 or 3 bad sets sent to him that werent welded up correctly at the collector.
i would ask 1 question 1st are the flanges the flat 3 bolt or the ball/socket set up i have a set of headman for my 79 f350 s/c 460/2wd with the ball type total junk the bolts loosen up all the time then you get the leaks/noise i called headman and got a total run-a-round stick with the 3 bolt flat flange i have never had trouble with those for 30 years or so
I've got those on my 4x4. The only clearance issue is the steering linkage. The PO who installed them had to dent the highest point for clearance. Not ideal, but they work. Keep in mind, that these particular headers aren't street legal in most states and prepare to drive a vehicle that sounds like you're at the track every day...loud as heck. I like mine though.
I think I`m just gonna get these ones. The only thing I wonder about is if you look at them, the collector flange just has a slip fit like crappy exhaust pipe.
I had a set on my 79 4x4 it had a 460 and I never had a problem out of them. iv had really good luck out of headmans to. iv had a few sets of them. iv had a set on my 72 bronco for bout 5 years now with out a problem. I did have to get sum flex lock nuts for the bolts on the collectors tho to keep them from loosing up
