I'm going to be putting Flotech Headers on my 1971 Ranger XLT (360/2WD). I have a very experienced friend that's helping me.
I plan on purchasing the Headers fairly soon (P.N. 12540FLT). My friend, says that he has a set of Flotech Headers sitting around, but they are from a F100 4WD Truck (P.N. 12542FLT).
Is there any way that these 4WD Headers will fit my 2WD Truck? I did some looking, and some of the various brands of Headers are the same for either 2WD or 4WD - Flotechs have 2 different sets.
Anyone have any experience with this? I may be able to get these 4WD Headers from my friend fairly inexpensive. But, if they won't fit, I'll just go ahead and buy some.
I have seen 4x4 headers that roll outside the rails. This would have no difference on drive. If they roll outside the rails I would not be afraid of them. Inside the rails all I can say is bolt them on & see.
Probably the reason for different PNs between the headers is the steering system btwn the configurations... 2WD is a rear linkage set up whereas 4Wd the linkages are in front.
Hmm..... test fit!
Btw... elgemcdlf is referring to fenderwell or fender exit headers like from Mad Dog and others.
I had forgotten about the difference in box location. The steering box may be an issue even with fenderwell headers. All depends on where they roll over the frame.
