Maf or air intake
I have a 03 f-150 lariat 5.4 and would like a little more performance... i have a hypertech power programmer (tunned) and would like a little more performance
would it be better to get a MAF or just a new air intake system... I have searched quite a bit and have read that the computer will readjust the airflow if i change air intake ie Cold air induction... yet have read mixed reviews about Maf also.. Any recomendations are appreciated... including brands and models thanks

First off, you shouldn't choose between the two. If you're going to get a new intake system, then get a new, bored MAF. If you want a new MAF, then get a new intake system. Basically, they will work together. If you only get an intake, you're still restricting your airflow with the stock MAF. If you get only a MAF, you're not getting hardly any performance out of it. The only thing you're doing, is increasing your airflow very little.
So the bottom line is, if you get one, get the other. Don't buy just one and leave it at that. It's almost like buying new shoes without shoelaces.

Before you go forcing more air through your system, have you addressed how it all will leave? I would upgrade your exhaust before upgrading your intake. Get some headers, high flow Y pipe, and catback. It doesnt make sense to shove more air through your system, only to have it all bottlenecked in that stock exhaust setup. As for the higher flowing MAF, you do realize it will throw your stoichiometry off, thus making your engine compensate by dumping more fuel (yes, you get power, but you lose mileage). The power gained from the exhaust will be "free" (dont ask your wallet, it wil lie to you ). What kind of cold air kits are offered for your truck? I like to keep my eyes open. I dont know of any for the 92-96 F/Bronco (which I fall into). You need to make sure it is a true cold air kit, and not just something like the FIPK.

I think the FIPK is a waste of money. You should use the search function on the top of the page and search for it. I know it has been debated (you might want to search the big bronco forum). Also, check out this link. It was a project vehicle. One of the aspects tested was in fact air filters, FIPK, etc. Some of the results might surprise you. http://performanceunlimited.com/projectmpg/
