<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1; COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Hope someone has some idea how to fix this issue. I have a 2004 Excursion 6.0 with 103,000 miles, about eight thousand miles ago it started not going into overdrive, sometimes it will, sometimes it will not. As of the last 3000 miles it will not go into overdrive. There are no error codes, the tow haul light is not illuminated, the tranmission was serviced 3500 miles ago, the truck runs great shifts nice just no overdrive. At 70mph its turning just over 2000rpm.
I have taken it to two transmission shops there response is to swap transmissions. Has anyone experienced this issue. Help!
it is almost impossible for this to happen with a 5R110 and not throw any codes, so that is very odd. What you need to determine is why it is not shifting into OD, which "side" its on. Tranny, or controller.
You need to drive with a controller hooked up and see if the computer is commanding OD. If it is, its a trans issue, if its not, its something else non-trans related.
Thanks for the info. The reason I know its not going into overdrive is. I can be driving along on level road at 50 to 70 mph and engage the tow haul and the truck will not down shift to 5th because it is in 5th. If I was in overdrive it would down shift to 5th gear.
the only way tow/haul will make it down shift at that speed is if you were coasting down a hill and gaining speed then tap the brake, in which case it should downshift to 4th. and then only if a downshift wont overspeed the engine.
2000 rpm at 70 is overdrive for sure.
try it with the skinny pedal, i bet it downshifts once.

@Bowie I own a 99 Ford F-250 with around 176k miles and 20k miles on the 4R100 and recently had the exact same transmission kick. Down to the fact it was enough for my wife to notice. After it doing it a few times I decided to swap the CPS for ****s and giggles since I had a spare one. Since swapping I have yet to have the same problem reappear. It’s worth a shot if you have a spare CPS.

First, this was eight years ago. I doubt he's waited that long for an answer. Especially since we determined there is nothing wrong here.
Second, he has a 6.0L/5R110W. You have a 1999, so you have a 7.3L/4R100. They have nothing in common. He also wasn't seeing kicks, he just thought it wasn't shifting to overdrive.
