2000 explorer engine swap question.
Hey everyone... This is my first Ford SUV so please pardon my newb here lol. I currently have a 2000 explorer with the 4.0 that I'm afraid needs the timing chains replaced and it has 179,xxx miles so I really feel it wouldn't be worth all the hassle to repair. My question is; would a 4.6 or 5.0 swap right in? Or would I have to change motor mounts, trans, etc...? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys. Sorry for such random questions but could someone explain the difference between x vin and any other vin on a 2000 explorer? From what I've read, the x vin is NOT a sohc engine? But instead a pushrod engine? Am I on the right track here? Just wanna get this thing fixed!

As best I can figure in 30 seconds, they did offer the OHV motor up to 2001. If so, those rarely, if ever, need the timing chain fooled with. If they do, it is a conventional set up that requires pulling the front cover etc, and replacing it. You must also pay attention to the hydraulic tensioner, so a repair book detailing the procedure would be the first stop.
SOHC motors have "SOHC" on the covers.
