advice on 2000 explorer 4.0
im planning on buying a 2000 explorer 4.0 auto tranny 4 door with 75000 miles for about 6 grand.
are there any serious problem's with these veichles? anything i should know or look for when im looking it over and possibly buying??

Nick is the motor the OHV or the SOHV you can tell by looking at the VIN . The 8th number will either be an X or E. If it is an X then it is the OHV and E would be the SOHC. From what I have heard the SOHV has major problems with the timing chains and is a very costly repair. To repair the rear chain the motor has to be pulled!! I have heard Ford has a TSB on those with replacement covered for up to 75,000 miles dont know much about that tho.

The OHV engine doesn't produce a lot of HP but it does have decent torque. It is also pretty bullet proof. No reason that the vehicle won't go 200,000 miles or more without any engine work. Just be sure to change the oil regularly and don't let it overheat.
