No third gear

No third gear

After my engine rebuild and resetting the timing. Which fixed the issue. Now after test drive it will wind out second gear but never touch third. No OD light flashing. Possible control module on the side of the Trans? I can't pull codes without that light flashing.

There is no control module on the side of the transmission. There is a sensor called the TRS, and it can't cause this problem.

If you can't get any codes you'll need a scan tool that can read live data. See if the PCM is commanding third gear or not.

I don't really have access to equipment like that. But luckily I have a warranty still. I got a new Trans last year. Would my jet programmer cause a problem with that?

A programmer can cause almost any problem.

I wouldn't tell the promissory of the warrantee about the Jet.

No I'm def gonna leave that little detail out. But i would rather fix the issue before I ship it out to get the Trans replaced. Thanks for clearing up that sensor on the side of the Trans. Now I can move forward

Take the tuner out and see if the trans will shift.

I tuned it back to stock settings before I initially did my break in on the rebuilt motor. I'm gonna run it again today. I know those have a really weird learn period. And if not I'm just gonna shoot up to the shop I used to work at. They have a great diag tech there. Only one around my town that I trust.

Are you talking about the transmission here? The 4r100 has NO learn period. It is as dumb as a rock, and will only do what the PCM tells it to do.

I was talking about the pcm. but either way im just gonna let the dealership that holds the warranty take care of it. heck, its only a year old trans with like 20,000 on it.

The PCM that runs a 7.3L has no learning capability for either the engine or the transmission.

New here and new to my "new" 2001 F350 and 4r100 trans but I just had problems with reverse on mine. Rebuilt less than 500 miles ago.

Turns out it still had the stock aluminum valves in the valve body and reverese was sticking BADLY.

They tried to upgrade with new steel valves and 3 were stuck and could not be removed.

Mine is fine now, and you may have another problem entirely, but it might be worth checking if the third gear valve is sticking.

It's a v10 not a 7.3
