I have scoured the internet, poured over catalogs. I find bits and pieces for my 240 inline 6, but nothing all in one spot. Would it be easier just to stroke it to a 300, and if so, where would i get the kit for it?
I don't think there is a kit for it (at least not that I've ever heard of). Your best bet would probably be to track down a 300 and pull the rotating assembly out of it.
I have been looking for a rebuild kit for the 240, which I like. But the rebuild kit I can not find, at least not all in one spot. The search continues!
Aside from the crank shaft and piston rods, there is very little difference between the 240 and the 300. As far as I know, a rebuild kit for a 300 should work on a 240 without issue. Just get one for a 300 from the era of your engine.
240 and 300 pistons have different compression heights, so watch that when you're shopping for a kit (which probably doesn't exist outside eBay). You'll more than likely end up having to pick up parts piecemeal.
There's no replacement for displacement. 300 cubic inches will move a truck better than 240. The 240 does have a lot of esoteric appeal in an older truck, though.
I was scouring over threads for boredom reading..and I came across barons quote lol I've heard "no replacement for displacement" so many times when I decided to go with the 6 instead of 8. Just makes me chuckle
