460 in van?

Did Ford ever offer a 429 or 460 in a E150 or any other van? Also, did they offer an automatic trans in vans or trucks with a 460. I have only seen trucks with a manual trans., no automatics. Thanks

460 yes, 429 no. All 460s were auto trans. No manual trans for anything other than a 300, 302 and 351w afaik.

Pretty sure they only put them in the E-250 and E-350. I have an E-350 with a 460 and C6 auto, it is a 1987 and it came from the factory with a carb. I am not sure if they had to be emissions compliant in the heavier weights.

By '87 they had to be emissions compliant. The standards and equipment might have varied at the higher GVW. You had a cat, right?

kind of embarassing to admit, I don't know whether it came with a cat or not. Do not see one underneath, however. Additionally, the carb has been replaced with an edelbrock and matching performer manifold.

Awesome...now all you need is a good Dual exhaust system., MSD Performance Ignition and a Good Intake and you can start doing Smoke Shows....

Mine is a Pathfinder 4x4 conversion with detroit lockers front and rear, a 4" lift and 36" mudders. Don't think it is going to win any burnout contests!

I have been seriously thinking about a dual exhaust on it though. You seem to have a good handle on performance upgrades, what is the best way to go with Dual exhausts? Any advice?

Also was wondering if there are any good headers that will work on this (E-350).

What are the advantages of MSD ignition?

MSD is good stuff.....Application Guide
460 's come with less than stellar Ignition systems...changing to High Peformance Ignition modules / wires and Platinum or Irridium plugs saves fuel and it will always run /start better...Due to the firing order cylinders 7 and 8 can Induction misfire with the Stock set-up....Since you already have the intake / carb set-up the Igniton and exhaust upgrades will make it breathe easier and If you take it EASY you can get decent MPG improvements..The hard part is not launching it at every stop light with the new found power.....Headers are difficult to fit in there , Stock manifolds work OK for stock heads...I have slightly Higher flow heads on mine but I also have a Holley 850 too.... I went Dual 3" on My 77 Dump with the cheapest mufflers I could find... Basically they are the E150 4.9 six size and I have alot of room under my Dump Box...You might want to get more compact ones since you have a lifted truck....

I think the biggest engine in half ton vans was the 400 in the 70's.

I've only seen one so far, it was a 77 E150 Chateau club wagon, 400 C6 3.50 gears. Think it was a Trailer Special but can't remember.

But 1980's and on went like this,

E150's - 300-6cyl, 302 and 351
E250's - 300-6cyl, 302 (light duty E250 only), 351, 460, and Diesel
E350's - 300-6cyl, 351, 460 and Diesel.
