hi guys
I'm new to the whole van thing
I came upon an 84 e150 with no engin or trans for free.
A buddy of mine has a 500 horse 460 what would it take to put the 460backed by a c-6 in this ex 302 equiped van?
Highrider
Motor mounts... THe 84 was a coumputer controlled carb setup on the 302, so you will need an MSD or similar ignition system. YOu will also need heavier springs on the front. Seeing as the old engine and trans are already out of the way, it should be failry easy.
You can get the motormounts out of any 74 to 92 E250/E350, and you probably wont find headers to fit.. You will either have to custom fab them, or go with stock manifolds from an E250/E350.
Hi guys I may have found a cheaper swap
would a the body from the van sit on a 2wd 1976 f250 chassis? I have the truck out back but forgot about the option of just putting the van body on this chassis. Yes the 460 would be cooler. But why buy a motor when I have a running 360 c6 package.
I was thinking of just stripping the body off of the rusted out truck. unbolting the van from its frame and just rolling the truck chassis under the van.
have any Idea how much of a difference there is in frame and mounting pads on the two chassis?
The springs, front and rear will interchange. I believe the '76 has front leaf srpings so that may require some custom fabbed mounts, but everything else should be pretty straight forward, GOOGLE 4x4 ford van and there is a website by a guy that did a similar conversion.
I'm sure it could be done, but it would probably be easier to try and stuff the FE where the 302 was.
The van frame is wider than the pickup. And I think that it is a totally different design.
FE's weren't available in vans, to my knowledge. So you will have to modify a set of motor frame towers. Don't forget you will have to relocate the trans mount and get another driveshaft made.
My advice, get out a tape measure, pen and paper, and start measuring. That's the best method I know of.
