I had my oil changed about 4000 miles ago. when i first got the truck it was nasty and ive maintained it ever since. she does burn oil though. i changed the pcv valve hoping that would help. when i checked it was low not empty.
this seems to of started after i changed the plugs and cleaned the MAF, etc. so either it had to do with that or its totally coincidental. im puzzled
how long do i need to keep the battery unhooked to reset the PCM?? Im gonna change the tstat also, and check the antifreeze level. any idea how to tell if the cap is bad? thx for all the replies I really appreciate them
Generally its 20-30 mins to reset computer. To test cap you have to get a coolant pressure tester. I dont think thats your issue. Your temp gauge would let you know if engine overheated. Id focus on that #6 issue.
not sure of the exact brand. i got them at bennet supply. im going to get the truck now and i will reset PCM and change out the #6 coil. ill keep everyone posted. Is there anything that will let me know the PCM has been reset??
Update.......Truck is at a Ford Shop (Highly recommended) cuz my mechanixc couldnt figure out what was wrong. Hes had the truck for 2 days and basically came up with.......
1. the truck is overheating
2. the #6 cylinder is misfiring and is showing climbing hight temperatures to set off the code and oil light and pegged temp gauge
3. HE SUSPECTS THE THERMOSTAT
4. hes replacing the thermostat and coil today
HE also said that undoing the battery does absolutly nothing. it does reset the computer but it doesnt fix any problems. As soon as I hear back ill update the post
isn't there a "bleed hole" on the t-stat?
I seem to recall having to make sure it's installed properly
to ensure proper operation. could it be installed upside down?
thus blocking coolant flow?
