Truck info
96 F250 xcab 4x4 Powerstroke
270k Auto trans.
Truck has new cps from ford.New fuel filter, new gpr.(all new in the last 3000k)
Ive had this truck a few months and has ran and started great.
Im having starting issues.
Sometimes it will start right up.Other times it wont.
Ive noticed that when it is acting up If I leave the key switched in the on position for about 30-45 seconds then crank it,it will start right up.When the truck is running if I switch it off then immediately crank it back up it will start with no problem. If I wait 5 seconds it wont start. Then I have to leave key on again.Ive put a new ignition switch which didnt help.Any help would be appreciated,Thanks JD
How cold is it where your at? You might have a couple bad glow plugs, since you can wait 30 seconds for them to warm up and it will start right up. Others will chime in soon.
First off thanks for your response.
Im in North carolina. When the problem first started it was rainy and about 50F.It was 70F yesterday and still the same thing.Would the glow plugs be a factor when its that warm?Ive got the truck at my buddy/mechanics house.Hes Not a diesel mechanic though. He told me that he thinks one of my batteries has a dead cell.Could that cause this?I had the charger on it while trying it.
Once mine starts and runs for just a little I don't need glow plugs any more and switch them off. I sounds like something else other then the glow plugs, maybe a sticking IPR. Unplug the ICP and see what happens.
