Having trouble starting
I have a '92 F250 Diesel which has been having trouble starting up for about a year now. I got it about two years ago to haul my horse to shows. When I first got it, it started just fine but it has been slowly deteriorating.
At first we thought the issue was the batteries so we got new ones. Well that helped for about a week but it was back to the same old long crank and pushing the gas through to get it to actually start. So we changed the glow plugs, again that helped but again slowly deteriorated back. We also changed the starter and that helped for a month and again its back to its long crank and smoke.
We did all of this work since last summer so I don't get why its still having trouble starting. When its really cold the batteries act like they are dieing (when I turn the key after the glow light turns off it cranks but each cycle starts to really slow down). But for the last couple of weeks its been sunny and the truck is acting like it has been cold even though I drove it around a couple of miles and let it sit for no longer then an hour. It suddenly has been cranking very slow to start out with, but when I push the gas for a bit it will start up really fast.
When it does start up a lot of black smoke comes out of the tail pipe for a few seconds then its clear.
Do I need to get the truck decarbed for something? Would that help it? It doesn't seem to be a battery issue since I just got new ones (though it does click back and forth a few several times when the glow plugs start warming up but it has always done that).
Hopefully you guys understood what I just wrote haha. Like I said earlier i'm new to the truck and diesel side of the world... so i'm still learning what makes them so different.
