That was evident from Trey's busted rusty water pump that had water in it for 2 weeks.
Plus the issues with water jackets rotting through, cavitation, and pinholes in the cylinders or in the block. Pretty damn common up here.
I'm sure that never has anything to do with coolant issues.
Yawn...
Run the FW-16 and a coolant filter and you will not have any issues.
Of course I dont spend $200 on coolant because I convince myself its the last coolant I will ever buy... Oppps, lost an injector cup... Ok, this time it will be the last time... Opps, lost a water pump... Ok, never again... oh crap, injector cups...
dumb question: Is a coolant filter a necessary item/modification for our 7.3?
Which one is BEST/$$$?
making one from auto store bought parts cheaper/ $$$??
Not a dumb question. I just put one in, and yes, I think it's a very good thing.
I basically followed the great plan from Bob (Guzzle):
I used the Wix 24019 base kit, and the Wix 24070 "plain" spin-on filter (the 24071 filter has built-in additive that disperses over time). I was able to find them locally, but you can also get them from Amazon:

I wonder if trucks that come with dual alternators from the factory and the around the belt hose have a clamp in that location? I'm curious as to what Ford used....
I ordered this kit, I should have it in a few days.
Looks slick. Billet! Nice to see that it comes with a non-charged filter.

That slot looks like it was designed for a hose clamp. It's a perfect fit. Although, on my truck, I don't think Ford used a worm-drive clamp anywhere.
Heh.... Mine is an 02 and has PLENTY. The worst were the ones on the manifold/intake plenums. Fuggin stupid.
Oops, yeah, forgot about those, my '02 also has them.
I was thinking of the coolant hose clamps, they are all the quick-release ones they use in production. They still work fine, I used them over when I replaced the hoses. I'd like to see the tool they use to put those things on, maybe I should get one. Anybody seen that tool?
