E4OD service ?
It is time to change out fluid.
First question: Why does the Haynes manual say to install a "new" TC plug?
The book also states 6 1/2 Quarts then top up in 1/2 pint increments. Realistically how much should I buy before I get dirty?
2001 DRW 4wd
If you are draining the pan and torque converter you will need A LOT more than 6 1/2 quarts. The entire trans holds about 18 quarts.
I followed the guide
Changing ATF Fluid in a E4OD and 4R100 transmission .: Articles
I was pumping clean fluid at about 14 qt so I hooked up the return and went for a test drive. I was so jazzed that I whiped into the driveway and ran over the last gallon of fresh atf. what a mess.
I did the pan drop and filter did not bother with the TC since I was doing the pump out.
I do however have a stripped pan bolt Courtesy of the local trans shop that last serviced it. I imagine they changed about 4qts and left me hanging
We will see how it holds fluid, I knew it was wrong at finger tight.
It is so clean that I can't really read the dipstick, so I'll run her some more tomorrow.
Now I need a shower and a bag of kitty litter.
