Hi im new to this forum and this is the first ford i have owned.
My truck is a 63 f-350 with the 223 inline 6. I bought the truck a few days ago and been trying to get it to start. When i turn the key to the on position i hear the electric pump running and when i try to start it there is no sound no clicking or anything. I tested the starter and starer solenoid and they both failed. So i replaced them along with buying a whole new ignition switch. After installing them i tried to start it and nothing happened. I tested the battery and it passed. I have also checked to make sure the cables and grounds were clean and tight but still nothing. What else could it be? I apologize if this has been posted already and thanks for the help in advanced
On the soleniod there are two small studs facing the engine. Have somebody hold the key in the crank position and see if you have juice at the one closest to the stud with the cable going to the battery. If not, then check the wire going back to the switch.
Try jumping the solenoid from the battery cable stud to the small stud closest to the cable terminal to the starter. This will turn the motor over so be sure that your transmission is in neutral or park and the ignition switch is off.
If it does turn the motor over than the problem is between the ignition switch and the solenoid.
Does your heater fan, wipers and radio work with the key on?
ok so i have power to the wire on the solenoid. The heater works but not the wipers and i dont have a radio. Ill try giving it a jump like you said. Ill keep you posted
sorry it took so long to reply.i finally got the truck to crank over. There were a couple wires that were not connected. Now i I just have to find out why im not getting spark. Thanks for all the help
